TOM GLANFIELD & TEAM CONQUER THE 3 PEAKS
A team from Lawrence Harvey took on The National 3 Peaks Challenge last weekend to raise money for their dedicated charity Regenerate. Led by MD Rory Ferguson and CEO Tom Glanfield, the LH team completed the challenge in 23 hours and 25 minutes and raised over £2,700 for Regenerate – a massive 272% over target!
The National 3 Peaks Challenge consists of climbing 3 of the highest mountains in the UK in under 24 hours and is well known as one of the most demanding challenges to attempt, combining intense physical endurance with sleep deprivation.
Setting off in Scotland at 7.15am on Saturday morning, following torrential storms that had grounded aeroplanes, the team tackled their first and largest mountain, the mighty Ben Nevis 4,409 feet high. Four hours later, dishevelled but still fiercely focused they drove 263 miles, which included a traffic jam to slow down progress, to Scafell Pike in the Lake District, renowned for its tricky navigation, treacherous path and dangerous descent, where they hiked to 3,209 feet as the sun set. Next was a 210 mile drive to Wales through the night, arriving at 3am the exhausted crew donned their head torches and faced the last challenge mount Snowdon standing 3,560 feet high.
Tired, broken, battered and bruised but still smiling, the team successfully completed the challenge, returning to base in incredible time to a hero’s welcome from their dedicated support crew.
Lawrence Harvey MD Rory Ferguson said “I feel immensely proud to have been part of the LH team that completed The 3 Peaks Challenge. To witness the team spirit as well as the collective mental strength required to complete such a physically demanding challenge was incredible. We had to rely on each other consistently whether it was drawing on each other’s energy and humour, or even just sharing a blister plaster! Everyone had a part to play, including the selfless Support Team who got us from A to B and provided us with food, drink and loads of encouragement along the way. In many ways it was a great demonstration of what it means to work at Lawrence Harvey; we took on a really tough and ambitious goal and we nailed it together”.
Andy Smith, Regenerate Founder will be using the money raised to open a new youth centre in September. “We would like to thank the team from Lawrence Harvey for achieving such amazing heights and raising loads of money towards our new youth centre. The donation will fund music equipment, a table tennis table, a renovated pool table and games for young people from a large council estate in SW London. Thank you so much, you are making a massive difference!”
